Top Carpooling and Ridesharing Apps on Android in South Africa Q4 2024

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the performance of carpooling and ridesharing apps on the Android platform in South Africa showcased diverse trends. Data from Sensor Tower provides insights into the weekly downloads and active user patterns for the top five apps.

Bolt: Request a Ride demonstrated a notable increase in weekly downloads. Starting at approximately 66K downloads at the beginning of October, the numbers saw fluctuations before peaking at over 81K in early December. However, weekly active users showed a decline from around 3.1M to 2.7M by the end of the quarter.

Uber - Request a ride observed a gradual rise in downloads from 27K to over 30K by the end of December. Despite this increase, weekly active users decreased from 1.3M to approximately 1.2M, reflecting a shift in user engagement.

inDrive. Rides with fair fares maintained a steady download rate, starting at 23.7K and reaching 27.5K towards the quarter's end. The app's active users also grew from 375K to over 406K, indicating a positive trend in user retention.

Yassir - Ride, Eat & Shop experienced fluctuating downloads, peaking at 15K in late November before declining to 2.5K at the end of December. Active users followed a similar pattern, increasing to 26.3K in late November and then dropping to 13.8K.

Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver saw a stable download trend, with numbers hovering around 5K to 6K. Active user engagement remained consistent, ending the quarter slightly above 40K.
